Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program (RRP) Courses

The federal EPA is now requiring all contractors to obtain a Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) certificate if they will be: disturbing more than six square feet of lead-based paint per room for interior tasks, or 20 square feet of outside surface per side, of a pre-1978 house.

According to the EPA this specifically applies to: residential rental property owners/managers; general contractors; painters; plumbers; carpenters; and electricians.

Under federal law, the EPA currently has the right to fine non-complying contractors up to $37,500 per offense, per day. The EPA started levying fines in March of 2011.

Contractors can qualify for a RR&P certificate by taking an EPA approved 8-hour course and passing an EPA-approved test, administered by an EPA-approved educator, like Kaplan. In the videos below Kaplan instructors discuss different aspects of RRP and how it may affect contractors and subcontractors alike.
